Faith for Potatoes

greatest event in history, the_wide_t_nv

Consider these lyrics from a popular hymn:

I serve a risen Savior
  He's in the world today.
I know that He is living,
  Whatever men may say.
I see His hand of mercy;
  I hear His voice of cheer;
And just the time I need Him
  He's always near.

Potatoes

Many of us have sung that song for decades. But I wonder: have we believed it for decades?  Do we really believe it today?

“Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.”

–CS Lewis

Here’s why I ask: Christianity exists because Jesus revived himself from death and walked out of the tomb.  That’s no small task.  When we sing “He lives” and celebrate Easter, we’re telling everyone that a man really did die, stay dead for 72 hours, and then climb out of the grave for round 2.

If Jesus can pull that off, then everything else is small potatoes.  So, why not ask him for more potatoes?

Dream With Me

More potatoes = a better marriage.  More potatoes = a fulfilled life.  More potatoes = certainty about your future.  More potatoes = a family transformed by Jesus.  More potatoes = your church turning your city upside down with God’s love!

Why not?  Either Jesus can pull it off, or He can’t.  If He Lives, then He can.  We believe He Lives, so let’s believe He can!

Romans 1:16 (ESV)
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
